Thummit, Ratings on the Go

by jimmy on November 19, 2008

How many sites offer you the ability to rate you recent dining experience but by the time you get home or in front of a computer you have totally forgotten about what you had intended to do ?  Most likely a lot.  There are many sites and services that offer this, yet they just have not tied up that last mile.  Thummit aims to take you that last mile and make it as easy as possible to rate your experience or purchase.  Simply text a simple rating or twitter it and that’s it !  No waiting till you get to a full blown web browser.

Currently the site is in a private beta and is mainly focused on local DC restaurants, but they are looking to expand beyond itno any number of things you may want to rate, consumer electronics etc.

Here is a short video from the demo night we had with the Thummit team.  Sean Greene, Founder and CEO, talks through the service and some of the in’s and out’s.

The site is also leveraging your social network as well, so you get reviews from trusted sources.  You can see who your friends have rated and they can see yours.  The home page gives you a latest news feed of ratings from your network and also a tab with some recommendations for you as well. They have some great polls every day for people to vote on the best Mexican, the best Pizza, and so on.  Also another great feature is the ability to see, and rate, places by neighborhood.  So you can take a look on the map and get an idea of the ratings near where you are or plan to be.

The basis for Thummit is great.  As I said, they have spanned that last mile, making it so easy to rate on the go, at the time of purchase and experience.  By using Twitter, SMS, and Facebook coming soon, they are leveraging known and accepted tools in the community, while at the same time exploiting the “viralness”, especially Twitter.  I think a service like this could really take off and expand into other areas, hotels, consumer electronics, and so on.

Good luck to Sean and his team over at Thummit !
