As I have written here before, one of the great things about this area is the community, in all its shapes and forms. It is really one of the main inspirations for this blog and drives many of my great relationships I have built over the last year and a half or so. The people in the area are always willing to jump in and lend a hand to help friends out. One day I even had some Jerry McGuire moment and went and wrote a mission statement about the community.
So I was really happy to be able to pass along a call out to the local community by our good friend Peter Corbett of iStrategyLabs for some good pro bono help needed in the DC area. Peter sits on the board of Greater DC Cares, who serves as the hub of the non-profit community in DC – they provide service to all the smaller non-profs (shelters, soup kitchens, etc.). Peter has helped aggregate a list of projects that Greater DC Cares needs some community help with. He has compiled a wiki of pages containing the projects that need attention.
This is a great opportunity for many of us to give back to some great organizations around town that do great things for people of all types. So please take a look through them and volunteer to help out and feel good about what you are doing. If you decide to take one on, make sure to annotate that on the wiki so people know about it.
