Amplifier Ventures Announces D.C Business Accelerator Program

by jimmy on February 9, 2009

On the heels of Launchbox Digital’s announcing they are accepting applications for their 2009 startup incubator program, we get news of another local firm, Amplify Networks, is announing Amplifier Business Accelerator Program.  According to Jonathan Aberman, managing director of Amplifir,

He plans to select six start-ups and invest $50,000 in each. Starting March 1, the chosen companies will begin receiving three months of personal attention from a number of investors and successful founders.

Similar to the Launchbox model here, which is basically modeled off of Y-Combinator in the Boston area, each company is given a small amount of seed money to get their idea off of the ground and along the way gain valuable insight and assistance from a team of experts provided by the program.  As I said before, Launchbox’s program last year was a great success with many of their protege’s getting some funding and moving on to bigger and better things.

The article in the Washington Post notes that VC money is definitely drying up as is other traditional sources that entrepeneurs tap into, such as friends and family.  Progrmas like these are a great resource for those out there with that next great idea but need  a little help in bringing it to reality.

The program starts on March 1st so if your are interested make sure you head over to register and find out all the details and the application documentation as well.
