I Say Cooper, The New York Times Says Copper …

Now I will be the first to admit, sometimes my spelling and grammar skills on my blog posts leave a little to be desired.  But heh, who am I, some schmoe writing about the DC tech scene.  

So I always like when I find someone else's screw up, especially when it is on the New Your Times BlogRunner aggregation page.  I was up early this am checking out the news and came across this, see picture.

As I started to read, I was thinking to myself who is Anderson Copper  ?

I thought to myself, I always thought his name was Anderson Cooper  ?

As it turns out, it is Cooper.  Seems the copy editor missed this little typo.

My Name is Jimmy: I Live in Mayberry

I was totally looking forward to hitting the Social Matchbox Meetup in McLean this evening.  Unfortunately, someone had different plans for me.

Some of you who know me are aware that I live pretty far out of the city, but not that far.  In any case we were informed yesterday by the local fire company that there was a manure spill upstream of the water treatment plant and we should not drink any water until further testing was done … manure spill ?  Where the hell am I living.

So today we got the results of the testing back and were told there is in fact contamination of the water system and to only drink/use boiled or bottled water.  Gee how fun.  That is why I was not able to make the event.  Instead, I had go buy tons of bottled water.  Apparently there has been a hurricane like buying frenzy of water around these parts. Maybe living in the serene farmlands on northern MD has its drawbacks.  I feel like I am living in Mayberry right about now.

And to think, tomorrow morning my decision point will revolve around  if I want to smell like sh*t or shower in it .. either way I come out smelling like a … well you know.

Programming Alert: Upcoming Jonny’s Par-Tay !

As you all know, the “staff” here at East Coast Blogging are huge fans of Jonny’s Par-Tay, the weekly show run on blog.tv.  The show is great, as is the interaction with Jonny, the guests, and the other viewers.

I was excited to see another stellar lineup planned for this week.  Jonny’s guests will be Ann Bernard, Founder and CEO of our own DC startup WhyGoSolo.  Ann recently took WhyGoSolo live into a private beta.  I got an invite and the site looks good.  I will be anxious to hear how things are going for Ann and her team.
In addition to Ann, Jonny is going to have on Shana, aka dcconcierge.  That is if she gets back from her trip to the Keys and stops taunting us with her notes on Twitter of cruising on wine cruise and eating freshmahi ….  Shana runs a very cool web site called DC Concierge where she answers readers questions on what to do and see around town.

I believe the viewership hit a record a few shows back and hit 158 or so.  Let’s all mark our calendars to meet up in the chatroom and enjoy the show together.  Show starts Wednesday at 9pm, so I will see you all there.

A Polar Bear and Leopard Walk Into A Bar …

This isnt very DC tech centric or anything, but I could not pass up a post on an article that is titled “Polar Bear, leopard reportedly almost escaped at SF Zoo“.  Man what the hell is going on out there.  A couple of weeks ago a tiger jumps a 20ft fence and kills somebody and now we have bears and leopards trying to get out as well. …
Its like that Disney movie, The Wild.  Whats next ?  Giraffes and lions heading for Fisherman’s Wharf.

Crazy 8 for 2008

So I got tagged the other day from Mr. Network Solutions himself Shashi Bellamkonda for the 8 things you don’t know about me. I have tried to dig up something interesting about myself over the last day or so, but I have found myself completely void and boring … okay, maybe not void. Anyway here we go, the great 8 things about moi:

1. I was born in Augusta, GA sometime in the early 70’s …

2. After high school I attended the University of Maryland, and promptly failed out during my sophomore year. Mainly due to lack of interest ..

3. Divorced once, enough said there.

4. Married with 2 lovely girls (5 & 3)

5. Joined and served in the US Army for 8 years. I was an Arab linguist.

6. Graduated from University of Maryland University College in 2005, a short 18 years after high school graduation. It felt good, took a while but I did it.

7. I love to take pictures and wish I did it some more. Here is some of my pics HERE.

8. I started a company 2Plus11 Technology, LLC and am working on building a web service that I plan to launch in the next month or so.
